General Information

Regatta Date: Saturday, April 10, 2004

Location: Langley Pond, Aiken, SC (Directions)

Accommodations: Several hotels are located within a short distance of the regatta site. The Midland Valley High School gymnasium will also beto rowers and coaches. The cost to stay at the school on Friday April 9th will be $2 per person. (More Information)

Concessions: Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the regatta site for rowers and spectators.

Spaghetti Dinner: Tentatively, the University of Georgia Crew Team will host a spaghetti dinner on Friday, March 14th at 7:00pm for $5 per person. The dinner will be held tentatively at the High School. Please indicate on the application form if your team is interested in participating in this dinner. If there is enough interest, your team will be notified that the dinner will be held.

Rules: SERCS will be governed by the USRA Rules of Rowing inclusive of all other local rules. This regatta is not an NCAA sanctioned regatta. NCAA rules will not apply. Protests must be submitted in writing after notifying officials on the water, and must be accompanied by a check for $25. If the officials approve the protest, the check will be returned.

Tents: Tents will be allowed at the finish side of the venue on a first come, first served basis as space allows. Space is very limited.

Merchandise: Official event merchandise, including this year's shirt and complete event video, will be available on site throughout race weekend and throughout the year in the SERCS Store. The unauthorized sale of merchandise of any kind at the venue is not permitted. Outside vendors will be permitted at the regatta site with prior approval as space permits. All vendors selling merchandise at the regatta must complete the registration process prior to the event.

Boat Storage: Trailers will be parked on a first come, first served basis. Trailer parking will become available on Friday, April 9th at 7:00am.

Security: Security at the regatta site will be on duty from 7:00pm Friday, April 9th to 7:00am on Saturday, April 10th.

Special Needs: Please advise the regatta registrar of any special needs regarding services for handicapped assistance prior to March 1.

Entry Information

Entry Forms: All crews must complete a separate entry form per boat. All entries must be submitted or postmarked by Friday, March 19, 2004. Entry forms submitted or postmarked after this date will be accepted based on lane availability accompanied by a doubled fee per entry. A boats for each school will be accepted before B and C boats if total number of entries per race exceeds 18.

Entry Fees: The entry fee for eights is $45, and the fee for fours is $35. There is a team entry fee cap of $500 prior to late fees. This cap does not apply to late entries. Late entries will be charged double the standard entry fee per boat. The University of Georgia Rowing Team is not responsible for races cancelled due to inclement weather. There will be no refunds. Launches: Note that if your crew brings a launch, you may deduct $50 from your entry fees.

Waivers: Please include a signed copy of the US Rowing waiver for each rower and coxswain. Please note that ALL participants including those registering online must include completed waivers when submitting race fees to the regatta. Blank waivers are available in the forms section.

Race Information

The course: The course is 2000 meters with very little to no current. There will be six total lanes, buoyed every 250 meters.

Boat seeding: Heats will be assigned as evenly as possible so that an even number of A, B, and C boats are in each heat. Lanes will be assigned so that A boats will be in the middle lanes.

Team check-in: Your crew may check in at any time on Friday afternoon or at the information table after approximately 4:00pm. There will be an additional check in time on Saturday morning from 6:30am to 7:30am.

Coaches and coxswains meeting: The regatta meeting will be held on a Saturday, April 10 th at 7:00 A.M.

Weigh-ins: Weigh-ins are on Friday, April 9th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday, April 10th from 6:30am to 7:00am. The maximum weight for lightweight women is 130 lbs. The maximum weight for lightweight men is 160 lbs. Coxswains for women should weigh at least 110 lbs. and 120 lbs. for men.

Bow numbers: Bow numbers for each boat will be required and will not be provided by the organizing committee. No racing shell will be allowed to race or practice without a bow ball.

Calling events: Crews will be called to launch by the dock-master. First call will be 40 minutes prior to the race time. No crews will be allowed on the water before first call or for additional practice on the day of the race.

Hot seating: Hot seating must be arranged with the dock-master. Events will not be delayed to permit re-rigging of shells.

Number of entries: Each event must have a minimum of 2 entries to constitute a race and we will have a maximum of 18 boats per race. A boats will be accepted before B, and C boats based on the number of entries.

Awards: There will be an overall high point and second place trophy. The official US Rowing weighted scoring method will be used based on the event and the number of entries in each race. If a team enters more than one boat in an event, only the designate ìAî boat will be eligible to score points. Championship event trophies will also be awarded for select races if sponsors become available. First and second place medals will be awarded for events with 2 or 3 entries. First, second, and third place medals will be awarded for events with 4 or more entries. All trophies will be awarded at the end of the regatta in the pavilion.

Finals: Depending on the number of flights in a particular event the top 3 crews per heat will advance in races with 2 heats. The top 2 crews per heat will advance in races with 3 heats.
